A Search For
God Study Groups
How they started
In September 1931 a group of people met with
Edgar Cayce in order to examine how the psychic information he
had provided could be best used and applied in their individual
lives. This led to a series of nearly fifty meetings that eventually
gave birth to the first twelve lessons of a book called A
Search for God, Book. 1. (May be purchased from any of the
Region Book Stores)
The intent of Study Group #1 -- as they eventually
called themselves -- was to work with this material in order to
turn it into something that could be applied, understood, and
more importantly, lived in their daily lives. Their
hope was that the universal concepts presented in these lessons
-- although couched often in strongly Christian terms, reflecting
Cayce's own upbringing -- might be practically applied in such
a manner as to bring a true awareness of the living Spirit into
the daily life of indidivuals, irrespective of their religious
background or beliefs. As a result, they hoped, their relationships
with those around them might somehow be positively affected through
the process. These lessons in spirituality have been called one
of the earliest and most effective tools for personal transformation
introduced into the western hemisphere.
Although steeped in a Christian environment,
Cayce's information is deeply oecumenical. These lessons in spirituality
emphasize the oneness of all life, a love and tolerance for all
people, as well as compassion and understanding for every major
religion of the world. In fact, one of the most important steps
to personal transformation deals with the importance of cultivating
an awareness of our oneness with all other individuals.
Study Group #1 was told that they could bring
light to a waiting world and that these lessons would still
be studied a hundred years into the future. Today, many decades
later, this material has been studied by thousands of individuals
from every walk of life and religious background, enabling them
to become more aware of themselves through cooperation, personal
awareness, faith, meditation, and love. These interdenominational
discussion groups examine this material on soul growth in individual
homes all over the world.
